This story shows the strength of the maternal bond between a raccoon mother and her young.

A homeowner had his chimney and furnace flues capped- inadvertently trapping a mother raccoon and her kits inside. After having been trapped inside the house and removed by Animal Control, this mom still came back for her babies after three days of separation. Humane Wildlife Services was there to rescue the babies, rehydrate, and reunite them with their mom.

If you believe that.... That is your choice. These are mine:

"A man is ethical only when he holds all life sacred, that of plants and animals as well as that of his fellow men." -- Albert Schweitzer

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated. I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man."

    Mahatma Ghandi (1869-1948)

Every creature on earth is sacred and necessary.

Humans enjoy procreation. Our species will continue to explode and decrease animal habitat. Yes, it's sad, but mis-allocating scarce resources to save a common raccoon which has adapted quite comfortably to human habitation is nothing more than a publicity stunt designed to fool a gullible public into donating money. It makes the public feel good so they can continue breeding without guilt. Why do we give these organizations tax-free status? Might as well shoot ourselves in the foot.

My wife and I reunite & rehabilitate raccoons for wildcare bay area, I was admiring the reunite boxes you use in the video and wondering who made them and where could we get some. We currently use pet carriers and this would be much easier to use.

Just a few days ago I saw a whole family of raccoons run across the street. There were like 4 kits and both parents.

"Nuisance" animals are mostly created by humans feeding them when they are young and 'cute' so they grow up associating human homes with food, and they teach their young that sad lesson. Ultimately the story usually ends badly for the animals, as they eventually encounter a human who poisons, traps or calls animal control which very often kill the 'pests' out of hand. All this in addition to humans taking over their habitat, making it hard for them to find a place to live and raise their young!

Humane societies have to start paying taxes like the rest of us. Raccoons have lost all fear of humans. They are the last creature that needs "saving". They rifle through and upset garbage cans, become vicious when approached and carry rabies. People have been bitten by them.
