I agree. One of the things that I loved about the original series was that Phelps' team worked together so well as a cohesive unit, and they all got their share of screen time.

So far I've found two articles ( both May 2010; one from MTV and a Huffington report ) where Peter was very upset the movie script had turned Phelps into a double agent.

Also ( and this I agree with ) the other complaint was that the movie was less about the team ( as the series was ) and more about Tom Cruise's character. So why call it Mission Impossible?

I read somewhere that Peter Graves wanted to restore Phelps' honor, but he died before he could attempt it.

Yep, that's why I stopped watching the franchise after that. Making Tom Cruise the hero by stomping on one of my generation's TV heroes? So very wrong.

What really stank is that Voight was doing a good job with the role. I could've seen him continue on in the series - if they hadn't mucked it up royally that is.
