After 40 years of service as the state of New Jersey's public television and radio network, the New Jersey Network (NJN) came to an end on June 30th, 2011 due to budget cuts by Governor Chris Christie. Here are the last few moments of the final NJN News broadcast. Then after NJN's final TV program ("Theatre Talk"), one last NJN News story is aired, followed by a farewell message just before midnight.

As of 12:00 AM on July 1st, 2011, the network became "NJTV", now under the ownership of New York City's PBS affiliate, Channel 13 WNET, which will be providing a limited schedule of 20 hours per week of New Jersey-specific programming on the former NJN TV stations.

  • People will always refer to the stations as NJN/New Jersey Network regardless.

  • @johnissoevil NJTV is a total joke compared to what NJN was. You can get better news coverage of New Jersey by reading yesterday's newspaper than watching NJTV. It was truly ironic that Governor Christie criticized NJTV for having no live news coverage of Hurricane Irene, when he was the one who shut down NJN and their entire award-winning news department!

  • So the channel is now a full-time PBS Station?

  • @IAmNotAFunguy I'm not sure of the exact schedule, but at least to begin with, NJTV will probably be all PBS network programming except for the designated minimum of 20 hours a week of local programming.

  • I saw this on tv

  • I actually was vacationing in NJ when that happened! Boooooooooooooooooo...

  • did they ever report anything controversial? chemtrails? toxic fluoride? haarp? NO!

  • POSITIVELY NEW JERSEY..... and meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • @identchannel No, NJTV replaced NJN.

  • I totally forgot about NJN! I'm from NY State and when I was a kid I'd visit my aunt and uncle in NJ.I remember seeing ads for this channel when I'd be watching TV.

  • I got to see some NJTV on a recent visit to Jersey. Like I said in an earlier comment, this is not what I grew up with. The channel that I grew up watching Uncle Floyd on is gone, replaced with this crap. Is that Barbara Corsen, formerly of WOR-TV and ABC, doing voiceovers?

  • @vwest7ife BRING BACK NJN!

  • I was the last intern NJN ever had. I was there from March 2011 until the last day June 30th. That last day was emotional. I enjoyed my time there, and learned a lot. I felt bad because I was just a college intern, and all those great people I met lost their jobs. I wish them all the best in the future.

  • @vwest7ife I moved out of NJ a few years back, but I've seen clips on NJTV. Not what I grew up with, I can say that much.
