A short report on The Jitsu Foundation 2010 Atemi Nationals.

I put this together as a coursework piece on local events for my master's degree - hence the focus on Sheffield and the odd sign off - JUS (Journalism University of Sheffield) News.

First video I've edited myself so a lot of room for improvement, not really expecting many views but all feedback is welcome.

  • You guys seem to have all these problems with TJF, but nobody's really saying anything. Exactly what is wrong with TJF and its style?

  • @c1991kit Why ???

  • @quiteawful You're hopeless.

  • @lovesfortea Given your logic, I should call my boss at work "Sir". Now that I am no longer in school I do not think this is appropriate. Given the founder of this style was a German surely it makes more sense to call an instructor Herr/Frau?

And this style of Jujitsu is a few decades old. It is not an ancient Samurai style, it comes from Judo, even the Jitsu Foundation website agrees with this. Also why is it called Jitsu, isn't that like saying you study "-ology"

  • @quiteawful Japanese Ju jitsu is definitely not a few decades old. Instructors are your teachers.. calling them sensei is like calling your teachers in school miss or sir.. or were you one of those that just called everyone by their first name? As I said, it's etiquette.

  • @lovesfortea i never said samurai did bushido, but Jitsu Foundation claims Samurai did this martial art? Not true if the art is only a few decades old.

I seem to have no problem showing respect to senior instructors in BJJ, I don't need to call them sensei or anything. I respect their ability.

As for dead pattern, I got in a scuffle with a squaddie, was planning to do something but the way he moved called for something else. Only experience in rolling prepared me for this.

  • @quiteawful I've had the experience of seeing a good friend use jitsu in a situation in a nightclub. A guy much stronger and built up started on him, yet my friend was able to floor him. You may not agree with the "dead pattern" but drilling becomes habit which in turn becomes instinct.

Saying samurai only did Bushido is like saying Chinese people only do Kung-Fu.

As to your last remark, it's called etiquette and respect. Sensei's have to be better than you or anyone could teach it?

  • @quiteawful because this isn't judo... you're just talking VERY simplistically about the origins of any martial art

  • @quiteawful umm...no this is a competition not a grading

  • @Jagoism1 have just read your comment

convincing people they can look after themselves with this type of dead pattern training is dangerous.

telling people that samurai actually did this is also a lie, jitsu foundation comes from judo, not the other way around

the military YES/NO SENSEI attitude, along with the "if someone is a higher grade they are better than you", gives it somewhat of a cult vibe
