More sloppy noodling - this time on a mid '80's Japanese Squier strat nicknamed "Harriett." Guitar has Fender Tex-Mex pickups and an American Vintage Reissue (AVRI) tremolo set with 1 1/2 step of up pull on the whammy bar (Carl Verheyen setup.)

  • You just need to adjust the tremolo so that it's floating - it involves loosening the screws that hold the claw in the back of the guitar until the bridge starts to pivot forward - you then have to go back and forth tuning the guitar until the string and spring tension balance out. Check out Carl Verheyen's Whammy Bar setup video on YT.

  • i want to change the pickups in my strat but idk what to put in these or 57/62 pickups

  • @baker9271 57/62's will get you a much truer to vintage sound than the Tex Mex - more clarity, more glassy shimmer. The Tex Mex is warmer and fuller - has more "hair" to it - it stays just clear enough to sound classic strat but doesn't quite have the "airiness" that the lower output p'ups have...

  • Hey man... are u using some kind of noise supressor or those pickups just dont hum at all?

  • @daniel30gugus I think there might have been some noise suppresion on the patch I was using because Tex Mex pickups are NOT hum canceling - they are a typical vintage style single coils, just wound a little hot...

  • @TRWilley I don't get it please tell me I have a live performance for january and I need to usea the tremolo a lot but the problem is that it gets out of tune PLEASE HELP ME!

  • Great sound!

    Looks like an '83-'84 SQ series Squier Strat. I upgraded my '85 MIJ Squier Standard Strat with Fender CS Fat 50's pups and also an AVRI tremolo. The AVRI trem bridge makes a lot of diference in sound. It really lets the sound of the pups come to life! I use to have Graphtech Stringsavers on the old Squier bridge, but they sound very dull, esp. on the 5th and 6th strings.

    Although it has a basswood body, my Squier now sounds better than the Fender '57 AVRI Strat I used to own.

  • @mmX1995 Without seeing the trem (actually, I believe the correct term is vibrato, but everyone calls it a trem/tremolo) the chances are you would just need to adjust the spring tension. If you bought it from a store they would offer free setups. Take it back and ask them to do it for you. Otherwise, going to any music store would be a good idea.

  • Nothing sloopy about that you sound great!

  • Hello

    I bought my first electric guitar two days ago, and it has the tremolo, or the whammy bar, or vibrato, or whatever... wich is fantastic using it, but I can't pull it up, I just can push it down, I don't know why :( So my question is, I have to buy a new tremolo or I have to make some kind of modification to my guitar?

    Thanks =)

  • Very nice....can't wait to get a hold of your pickups ;-)

  • The Japanese Squiers are good stuff.... I bought a standard squier limited ed strat.. made in china a few weeks ago.. overall not bad. Was wayyy better then the mexi strat I had 2 years ago.. Im replacing the squier pu's with some tex mex's.... Great tone and playing by the way...
