@TheClemming I think it really depends on whether you think Brecht is good or not...and loads of plays need the odd cut. Hamlet being one.

I hate this praising of Streep - as if she was the only actress ever managing to interpret Mutter Courage well. I saw it at Berliner Ensemble. Those guys know what Brecht is all about.
"The play needs some cutting!! The woman must be insane! Is she talking about commercial or artistic succes. Apparently in America that is one and the same thing. SAD!
Anyway I really respect Meryl Streep - even though she is doing what any trained European stage actor would do. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I love this. Seeing Meryl act on stage is just so inspiring and interesting.
I would have given anything to see this play with her in it !
