I can't help notice the map of metamorphic rock lies like a dabris field around the great lakes which I think are now identified as an impact crater. Recently I saw on TED Talks how impacts from large objects hitting the earth impact the earth's crust in very distinct ways turning the character of rock many miles below the surface in to a plastic like material through the instant heat/pressure combination. I'm wondering could metamorphic rock be what's left over from these large impacts?
