@Ahippi Actually it was Eisenhower that sent advisors to Vietnam and involved us in helping the French before that. The Bay of Pigs invasion was conceived under Eisenhower as well, and Kennedy opposed doing it. He declined air support for the invasion specifically because he was against it.

dont forget it was Kennedy who got us tangle in Vietnam for the next 10 years and left the cubans stranded in the Bay of Pigs.

His speeches stand though. Most people at least through their actions, i.e. in the decent way they are dedicated to raising their children, express a believe in peace and a slightly better world. To me Kennedy gave them probably one of the most powerful voices in the 20th century. It beats war rethoric and the power projection that all men are beasts at all time to be restrained by violence or the threat of it.
