I measured the temperature of my 360's exhaust with a temp probe in one of the holes on the back of the 360. 360 was run in 1080i. The video has been sped up a lot.

Update: Video was recorded shortly after recieving repaired 360 from M$ (had e74, see profile). Manufacturer date of (as printed on console) "2006-07-08" Original console purchased in Nov. of 2006. New console has different serial # and does NOT have an HDMI port or the new heatsink. 360 is a premium.

  • So it run hotter in idle than playing a game? That doesn't seem to make logical sense but...?

  • Well, yeah, pretty much. As "annzmanz" said, the fans must be running faster.

  • so i dont get it...the temp is hotter at idle?

  • The temperature decreased when I started playing.

  • is that miuntes or hours?

  • DANG it gets pretty hot, my original 360 red ringed, FUKIN pissed off anyway to fix it without the towel trick and thermal paste?

  • it's the same with any auto fan system. my xps laptop does the same, the graphics idle at 75c which is ridiculous, then if i start up a game they cool down to 56c or so. the xbox programmers dont believe the fans need to be running at full if it's idle, for noise concerns..

  • maybe because the fans kick on overdrive?, maybe the a/c turned on in your house. or the heat off?

  • @fullsp3ctrumsniper yea they are, there's a built in temp sensor that adds more v to the exhaust fans because they normally run at 5v even tho rated at 12v.

  • @chivan89 saints row... yea im a month late

  • NAME OF THE GAME PLAYING IN 2:50???

  • Intresting, as I have had three xboxs now. i apprieciate your insite.

  • That is exactly was thinking....maybe as soon as you activate "play Game" the CPU starts sending 8 or 9 volts to the fans instead of say 5 volts at dashboard. One reason for this might be that so when you turn it on...it is very quiet...But most people play with the speakers on which overpowers the additional volts sent to fan while playing....If you know what i mean

  • did u get yours 2006/2007 because they fixed the problem in newer models

  • Yes i does. I have gta 4 on my hdd and it runs about 5-10 degrees cooler when i play it from the hdd.
