  • what the fuck is this?

  • Men's Recovery Project were a band from New York / Virginia. Ex-members of Born Against who would later go on to form Wrangler Brutes. Their music could be categorized as "art punk" and their live performances featured video art installations similar to this one, along with singer Sam McPheeters dressed up as Patrick Henry reciting the give me liberty or give me death speech to start off their set.

  • This was pretty appropriate because their contributions were important and could even be considered "revolutionary" in the context of the 90's post-post-punk/hardcore scene.

    Postmodern R and B obviously punk-related.

  • now I see where The Locusts got their style from

  • @LivesUnderABridge Oops, meant to post this: youtube.com/watch?v=DwW6u6A-rIU&feature=related

Anyways, as I've said, I don't feel like arguing. Watch the whole video(both), see masked people jumping around, randomly inserted stock footage, a "baby", and other very similar imagery. If you don't see the similarities, then oh well. I'll go ahead and let you have the last word, because I really don't care that much. Cheers.

You posted the same video twice. And as cool as that was (and I'm not trying to knock Devo in any way) I really don't see a huge similarity.

In the Rolling Stones cover they did they wore yellow jump suits and goggles. I don't see where the glaring creative thievery is here. This video has shrimp, a mechanical baby, numerous masked man dancing, cells of some sort, and a great deal of randomly inserted video clips and I really don't see any resembelance at all.

  • @LivesUnderABridge Never said I was trying to argue. For the very basics, see: youtube.com/watch?v=jadvt7CbH1o

and this(unfortunately the real one is unavailable on here): youtube.com/watch?v=jadvt7CbH1o

As stated, not trying to argue. I hope you can see the similarities as I do. It may actually be more like an homage, which I implied in my first post.

  • @curbstompoioioi

You still haven't explained how this is in anyway a Devo ripoff other than stating that it is, which doesn't qualify as a convincing arguement in any known logical forum. Because the video is strange it's a Devo ripoff? Again, if that's your only qualification for something being a Devo ripoff then I could probably direct you to hundreds of "blatant" style thieves.

  • @LivesUnderABridge No, it's just that this is a DEVO rip off. 'Specially the video. Still good though.

  • @curbstompoioioi

Just because something is strange or "artsy" doesn't mean it's a Devo ripoff. If that's really your take on it then Devo must be a rip off of the early 20th century Dada Art movement.
