  • My Dad was a Jazz piano player in the 1960's who became friends and had some jam sessions with Charlie Byrd. What an amazing talent.

  • @mgerakos

I had the honour of playing a support for him. Maybe 25 years ago now. Left my guitar switched off and out of the way on stage. After his recital, he did an encore and called me up on-stage to jam. I was on cloud nine. Later I talked with him. What a 22 carat gent he was. Gave me a moment I will never forget. Call me a 'romancer' or a liar if you like. Call me a 'name-dropper', but I know it happened. Thanks for this vid. Brings back memories.

  • One of my great regrets in life was never having the opportunity to meet Charlie Byrd. He's been such an inspiration for me. The first tunes I ever tried to play on guitar were from "More Brazilian Byrd".

  • I've had the Hot Licks tape for 10 years and still can barely play the opening improv. There is some stuff from Bossa Nova Pelos Passaros that I'm getting down. It sure helps to have classical technique (which I don't have).

  • NormanMac, Charlie may not have the largest fan base but I doubt if any one has one as intense as Charlie's. From what I've seen people are either indifferent or absolutely mad about him with nobody in the middle. I noticed the same about Willie Nelson in the early years.

  • Me too Norman....spent many njghts spinning vinyl trying to copy this GREAT.

  • Thanks for posting this rendition of Jobim's,triste .I happen to be a big fan of Charlie's.
