@MrDirkles Well to be fair, we do use 1,000 x 1,000,000 as one billion nowadays, since the seventies I think. However, when I say "we", myself and an awful lot more people stick to the traditional way so I will always call it one thousand million and refer to one billion as, one million times one million.
If you are English you therefore use the si system and one billion is 1,000,000,000 or 1000 * 1,000,000. Some countries (foreign speaking/ non English countries) define the it as 1,000,000 * 1,000,000. So in a way we are both right. Have a good day :D
