I'm so glad that I found this! I saw this piece first on video from "Gay Men of the Bronx Night of 12 Gowns" 1997 part 1. The vid can be found ay Google videos-just type in "Gay Men of the Bronx" w/o quotes or capitals and it should come up. The performance starts at about 1:28:30 by a queen who goes by "Michelle." She was good, but seems to do her own ad libbing, which works well with the crowd. I'm just grateful to get the history of the script. R.I.P both Marsha and Chrysis! Blessings...!
Yes, "Spare Change for a Dying Queen" is the correct title. I know because I wrote it. Also, yes, Chrysis was doing an homage to Marsha. They were very good friends. The language is fashioned after Marsha's speech pattern and expresses her sentiments as closely as I could approximate it.
Chrysis always reminded me of Margeaux Hemingway. Gorgeous. I remember her pad in the Bronx to this day...
