It is 11/29/2011 and about 40 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Decided to give some sugar to the bees. Not too much bees in the hive but still enough to survive over the winter.

  • No I don't wrap my hives because the coldest it ever gets in Puget Sound area is maybe negative 10 Celsius. That is not cold for the bees. If it gets too cold the bees can close their entrance with wax to keep them warmer. Ya they still come out. Whenever if is sunny and gets to 50 degrees Fahrenheit they fly a lot. I have a small crack at the entrance about 1/2 centimeter for the bees to go in and out when they want to.

  • Hi Do you wrap the hive for the winter to keep the bees warm? Are they locked in the hive for the winter now ? or can they still come and go ?
