Love him or hate him, controversial KIM Gi-duk seems to be connected to many Korean of Korea's successful international cinematic exports, whether it be through his protégées such as director Jang-hun (YELLOW SEA 2010) or his own films such as biopic doco ARIRANG (2011). Directed by yet another of his protégées JEON Jae-hong and produced and written by KIM, POONGSANG the film has since played around the world, introducing North/South Korea political relations. Poongsan, a young man dangerously carries messages accross the border. He is then ordered by South Korean authorities to smuggle in the lover of a high ranking official and the two fall in love. The film is a sort of drama, romance, action thriller all rolled into one and has played across the globe.
