Sunday for Sammy 2008: An all-star charity DVD, filmed at Newcastle City Hall featuring many of the North-East's finest actors and musicians.

Other highlights include: Ray Jackson, Billy Mitchell, Tim Healy, Timothy Spall, Kevin Whately, Christopher Fairbank, Brendan Healey, Denise Welch, The Peter Donegan Band, Charlie Hardwick, Angie Lonsdale, Coleen Nolan, Zoe Tyler, Liam Mower (star of the award winning West End production of Billy Elliott).

The first SUNDAY FOR SAMMY was staged in 2000 by Tim Healy and Jimmy Nail to commemorate the life and work of their friend Tyneside actor Sammy Johnson, who died suddenly in 1998. The 2008 shows were the latest in a series of SUNDAY FOR SAMMY events held on Tyneside every two years to raise money to help gifted young performers make a start in the entertainment business. The format of the shows, blending hilarious sketches, stand-up comedy and stunning music has proved to be amazingly popular with the public. The 2008 concert also features performances from young bands The Mosaics and The Known World, both of whom were recipients of grants from the Sammy Johnson Fund.

The DVD of the 2008 concert was directed by GEOFF WONFOR and produced by RAY LAIDLAW. 75% of the proceeds of the sales of the DVD will be donated to the Sammy Johnson Fund.

  • Thanks for everyone's interest, but please don't ask me to upload other parts of the DVD. Buy it - it's for charity.

  • Great to see clips like this on YouTube, since this DVD isn't available in the US...probably not even playable on a zone 1 DVD player even if we COULD get our hands on it. So these posts are a great service for US fans. Thanks!
