The internet contains a lot of guides to building wacky home-made vehicles. Hovercrafts are the newest trend on video platforms. Nothing could be cooler than floating along upon a pocket of air, so why not impress your friends by downloading the instructions and giving it a try?
We put four physics students from the University of Ilmenau to the test.
The first step is to stock up on materials for their unusual project. They need tough plastic sheeting, wood and a leafblower, the stronger the better!
Then they sand the wood, less friction means more power. Fitting the pieces together is not as easy as it might sound. Improvisation is the key.
The project wasn't so cheap - materials cost ran to around 200 Euros - but they certainly turned heads on the university campus.
the germans again....
