@davethehostage Very good way to put it.
-
I wish people would stop using the term "leader of the free world". It's so arrogant, and completely inaccurate. He's not my leader. He doesn't speak for me. I can't vote for him. He lives in a different country.

children, children...

@Rockster969 Science used for religious purposes? Oh yeah, like what?
Last I heard people in history were being burnt at the stake for promoting science over skydaddy bullshit

@ComeLeVent Religion is a spanner in the works of mans emancipation.
It's divides, not unites, and gives social permission for bigotry, judgementalism, and all the other dogshit that spews from ignorant mens (priests) mouths.
It turns otherwise reasonable people into mental cripples as they've been force fed this shit since childhood.
-
@ComeLeVent So do you think it was good that the Greeks believed in Zeus because that was important inspiration for them to develop culture? Culture and art is much more meaningful if it's about reality. It doesn't inspire me to look at some ancient artifacts based on some random gods. It inspires me less the progress they've stunted by having that dog shit religion. It's no different when anthropologists dig up our culture thousands of years from now.
-
@ComeLeVent So you ignore all culture and art that has nothing to do with religion? You have made the claim that everything in the world only exists because of religion. Religion is the motor as you called it. I am saying that is a false assertion and only your opinion. As long as their has been religion there have been people opposed to it. All religions are slowly dying, as they always do.
-
I am interested in science and technology. But I hold culture and art in a much higher regard. Their quality is directly related to how religious they are.
If you believe the world doesn't need religion, then have it your way and see what happens. Simple as that. I think this solution will satisfy all parties.
-
@ComeLeVent So you know everything and need nothing explained to you? Arrogant and ignorant. Science seeks out knowledge. The more science grows, the less and less the world needs religion. Religion is no longer the driving force behind culture, and hasn't been for some time now. Or do you just pine away for the good old days of religion, like the Dark Ages?
-
The idea that religion is a way to explain things is a mythology. It comes from people whose main concern is to explain things. That's called projection. The point and purpose of religion is not explanation, but wisdom, tradition, worship and ecstacy.
Saying religion is a byproduct is ignorance. Much of the greatest art and science was used for religious purposes - the pyramids, temples and ziggurats, early social conventions, early literature, music and dance. Religion is the motor.
Atheism is a religion the way bald is a hair colour.
