Roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty with the urban homesteaders Path to Freedom. The Dervaes family shows us how they coverted a 1/5 acre city lot in Pasadena, CA into an eco-oasis that has reduced their dependence on electricity by 2/3 and increased their goals of living sustainably and self-sufficiently. From installing solar panels to brewing biodiesel, Path to Freedom has started a what they call a "homegrown revolution. . .using their hands as weapons of mass creation."

  • I live in a trailer park, and I have a small raised bed garden about 5 foot by 5 foot. I also grow in containers and I generally have more veggies than I know what to do with. I guess what I'm getting at is you dont need land so much as you need "dirt". Anyway happy growing. :0>

  • Amazing! I would love to live this way!

  • i live in a mobile home also, and we have our little corner of Eden also, and have flower beds and some containers, also I planting lots of seeds, with no real plan as to height or anything, I want to see what mother nature does!!

  • these people have become corporate frauds. They are trying to claim that the father is the FOUNDER of urban homesteading, and they are preventing others from using that common term. I'm an Urban Homesteader! And I never learned it from frauds like this.

  • such a nice peek into the homestead !!

I love the Low-tech solar shower - how easy some of your ideas are if we would all just take the time to slow down and re-evaluate.

    Thank you for your inspiration.

I will be trying out the skyscraper planting when we build our raised beds, and have a hanging strawberry bed !!

Anyone know anything else that grows well in hanging baskets ?? (UK Climate)

  • To me they are a model of Ideal Living...
