Rebuilding a Mitsubishi? You'd better have this if you want to get it right.

Anyone trolling DSM forums has encountered threads of people asking for part numbers. They eventually see someone mention CAPS, and that person comes through like a god when they effortlessly posts the answer and sometimes screen captures of the part they found. As nice as those guys are, it's not exactly amazing. It's something you can do yourself.

If you've never encountered CAPS, in this video I TELL you how to find it. Something about "3000GT" and "CAPS". When you do, you'll find someone else's instructions for several ancient Windows operating systems. It's not difficult software to get working. It's just extremely primitive and may have problems with modern equipment and operating systems.

I won't be mean, I'll be frank... I don't want to help anyone troubleshoot Windows-based software installations. Even if you paypal'd me money, I simply don't care enough to help you with it, and it's not you, don't worry. So, accept the challenge and have fun trying to figure out how I got it running on what I'm running it on if you wish. You'll quickly tell by looking at my setup, that it's no help to you. I installed it with the dumbest setup on the oldest, most incompatible computer I could find just to prove this point. Yes, that's trolling. Let the Mac vs. PC arguments begin!!!!!

okay... fine... this one, too... http://lmgtfy.com/?q=3000GT+CAPS

Caboose has lost 3 pounds since I got him a girlfriend. I fear it might be blood loss because she's a really tough cookie for being half his weight. Neither one are declawed. Still, I'm very proud of his progress. He's only 13 lbs now. She's only 6, but compensates by being really fluffy to make herself look big. Caboose is still the man, but pays dearly for that privilege. Don't we all?

  • What part would you want to buy from the dealer that you can't get cheaper elsewhere?

  • @aleks138 Valve Stem Seals, engine gasket kits, front case (oil pump), stub shaft, oil filter housings, water pump, timing components, fasteners... want me to keep going? :P lol

There's many parts that are junk-out-of-the-box when it comes to aftermarket. Some (like the front case) are critical to your engine's survival. I'm able to order most OE parts for the same price as aftermarket replacements. When it comes to needing quality service parts, I rarely substitute.

  • @Jafromobile

Felpro sells a mean gasket kit for $90. Comes with every top end gasket you'll need.

As for oil pump- OEM Hyundai on ebay

stub shaft- make your own :p

OFH- 4g engines are plenty. Mighty max have the forward facing 6 bolt OFH.

water pump- GMB on ebay (it's a repackaged OEM one)

    Timing belt- Gates.

Tensioners and pulleys- GMB (once again it's OEM without the stealership markup)

    Headstuds- ARP

rest of bolts and nuts can be had at the junkyard. Best part is that they're OEM too :p

  • @aleks138 People will appreciate finding my car in a junkyard. But I never find 2g turbo AWD cars in the junkyard. Ever. I'd have to burn $20 worth of gas to save $20 on jackshaft carrier bearing bolts if there ever was one out there. So there's good reason to buy dealer parts on occasion.

I had problems with the Fel-Pro kit. The intake gasket didn't have sealant around the head-side, the valve stem seals were all the black ones, and the exhaust gasket was a lead composite gasket, not SS.

  • I feel like it may be easier if someone knew what is currently done to my car, and where to go from there. If you could help, that would be cool. Thanks!

  • Jafro, I couldn't find a way to PM you. I'm having a difficult time navigating through this new setup Youtube has. I was wondering if there's any way to contact you online? I just have some basic noob dsm questions. I've read a lot on dsmtuners, including the basic upgrade paths, etc. But I still would like to talk to someone who is knowledgeable on these cars. I'm having some problems with my car. Nothing I suspect is major, though. Also I'd like to know where to go as far as modifying.

  • @Jafromobile yes absolutely. the people in the community make it what it is today.. these engines aren't one of the most powerful platform 4 cylinders by themselves :D

  • @tscompusa It's this kind of discussion that makes my videos even remotely helpful. I keep reminding everyone in PM's that I'm not a certified mechanic, and I only know anything from experience and what info was passed on to me FROM THE COMMUNITY...

The DSM community has taught me more than I ever wanted to know about cars. I owe everything to guys like you who speak up and share what you know. There's more in the DSM crowd than anywhere else, so far as I have found. Thanks!

  • @Jafromobile no problem. you'll like the ASA a lot better. they have these things online also .. like live catalogs. go to google, put in part # go to images and you will see them all over the place. i still prefer to use the program on the pc though.

  • @tscompusa downloading it now... Since CAPS doesn't work on WIN 7 and later, and I have virtual machines for that on my i7 MBP... I'll give it a shot and let you know how that works out. THANKS FOR THE INFO!

    I found mitsubishilinks. com. wow!
