I present you here the Sony DTC-670 DAT recorder from 1991 that i got by "Videoschrauber". And this is now my very first DAT that i ever had.I never had any experience with DAT's before. Many many thanks for that,"Videoschrauber"!!!! :-)))) Check out his channel!!: http://www.youtube.com/user/Videoschrauber

I show you in this vid,how you disassembling and taken apart the drive + show you the weak points of this drive too!
Following Sony DAT's with drive mechanic:DATM100/DATM102 have the same or similar torque(motor) problems and some other little problems too:
DTC-57/59ES,DTC-690. (and probably this models too:DTC-A7, DTC-55ES,DTC-60ES, DTC-75ES, DTC-670, DTC-690, DTC-700, PCM-2300, All this data that i found in the net. All that without guarantee!!!!)
Here's a link for the tape torque modification for earlyer DTC-670 models, that have no regulate potentiometer for the tape torque. You can find there also some other problem points too. The Service hint are only in german language, probably you can find it in english somewere in the net:
www.forum2.magnetofon.de/bildupload/Sony-DTC670ServiceHinweise.pdf
When this main problem with the torque/motor is fixed, almost everything is ok then.
You see now, when you wan't to get a DAT recorder,it's recommended that you can do repairs by yourself: DAT mechanics are quite sensible and can make problems, especially after no use on longer time!
But when a DAT recorder works well, you have a great sounding hi-fidelity equipment! Because it works with the "PCM" Format like the Compact Disk! (NO mp3 crap of course!)
