I have been looking for this FOREVER!! He makes this so plain on an adult level. And while there are times when we chuckle because these are educated adults, it really put you in the position of students with learning disabilities. I hope the teachers who watch make the necessary adjustments in their classrooms.
IT HURTS TO READ ALL YOUR COMMENTS, I'M AN SPECIAL NEED ADULT, MY SON HAS SPECIAL NEEDS, I HOPE YOU NEVER HAVE AN SPECIAL NEED, I WISH FOR ALL OF YOU NOTHING BUT THE BEST AND THAT EVERY WERE YOU GO YOU'LL BE TREATED WELL AND WITH FEARNESS
This "asshole" is fabulous. You obviously are missing the point here.
Some of your students acting like knuckle-draggers does not invalidate the needs of a whole population of kids. (Yes, NEEDS.)
He definitely should not "accept" the idiocy of "It's not FAIR!" You're lazy if you try to cop out with that excuse. Man up and actually TEACH. If you can't or refuse to, retire.
@tbdonnelly67 I apologize; I should have defined my terms. =/= means "does not equal". I did not know you were a special learner in that regard. It's unfair for me to continue without giving you direct instruction on the meaning of that symbol. Also I was not aware that you are a teacher, or know something about teaching. I would agree that the above law makes teaching more difficult. However, difficulty =/= lack of worth. Or, just because something is hard, does not mean it is not worth doing.
@mathwizard44 I do not know what you mean by =/=. I still think he is a LIAR! It was a very dark day in American public education when PL 94-142 passed. Say goodbye to any and all standards of instruction. I had students who boasted about intentionally failing diagnostic tests to they could get into the "retard room" (their words, not mine). Special education has been the RUIN of USA public education! This asshole Lavoire is at the forefront of it. Fuck him and his lying bullshit!
@mathwizard44 Are you serious? "equitable" comes from "aequus" = even, just, equal. To ME this means everyone gets treated the SAME; with the SAME expectations! To allow one group of kids unlimited time for a test and another group limited time is UNFAIR! To let one group of kids use a dictionary for a test and another not to use one is UNFAIR!
Again, I looked at dozens of dictionaries and NEVER saw one definition of "fair" that had to do with "need". NOT ONE! NEVER! He's a liar!
I looked in Webster's dictionary, and in DOZENS of dictionaries since I first saw this program more than 20 years ago. I saw many definitions involving "being equitable" but I NEVER ONCE saw any definition that had to do with NEED. Not one, ever.
A good program all in all but he blew it with me at the end.
