After Effects Tutorial - Lightsaber without rotoscoping using Chroma key

I've made a few videos with this steps with no good results. But finally I've succeded and I'm posting this tutorial.

The steps to follow are almost the same of classic rotoscoping, but there is no need to create a mask for the saber: Just chroma key it and see the video to know how to get that "white saber" automatically.

Pros:
- No rotoscoping needed.
- A lot easier and faster.

Cons:
- Due to chroma key effect, the object representing the saber in the video must be the only object in the scene with the

color it has.
- It's required to record a good quality video and be very careful with shadows and color

I never, EVER would've thought of that. Genius.

Not very good for clips that are actually outside or have any kind of background, but that is still a GREAT method. One thing you could've done is add a Glow to it for color instead of just blurring it and adding color balance.

Thanks you very much n n, well, maybe I could use Glow Effect instead of blurring it but I guess the principal goal here is to get the saber effect with Chroma Keying.

The only problem is that you have a shadow of the original tube.

vey good, yet I`m worried about in instant action, will this follow the lightsaber, say if you have a green lightsaber, and your outside, what do ya do!
