Sur le Rhin - á mon ami Paul de Maleingreau, Professeur d'orgue au Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles
"Molto maestoso in E flat minor and 4/4 time. A magnificent piece in a solid writing style, in which Vierne gives expression to the great impresson made upon him by his journeys along the Rhine. The first theme is presented in the broad sound of the "demi grand choeur" (all 16'-8'-4' founadtion stops on the Grand-Orgue/Positif and full Récit). In the middle section a second, livelier theme appears in G minor. A dynamic build-up culminates in the reprise of the static first theme, now with an added pedal motive derived from the theme itself." (Ben van Oosten)
