Darby Crash - Hang on to Yourself and Forming

This is Darby and the gang (pre Don Bolles, I believe... not sure who is on drums here) at the Masque on a benefit gig to get money to turn the punk dive into a proper venue after getting raided by the police. The Germs play 'Hang on to Yourself', a David Bowie cover from Ziggy Stardust, and then play 'Forming' (in which Darby sounds suspiciously LIKE David Bowie :P)

Note : At 1:38, someone slams into Darby (then Bobby Pyn), and knocked the microphone into his face. Darby (Bobby) screams at the guy, and he and Pat Smear jump him. Afterwards you'll hear a man cry out "Bobby Pyn just hit me!" as Brenden Muellen attempts to restore some order in the place.

when I first heard hang on to yourself(I had gotten into bowie through learning about darby's obsession w/him) I thought this sounds like a germs riff it probably would've been a germs song had it not been bowie's

Yeah, it's a great choice for a cover. I got into Bowie the same way :P

Bowie and Iggy were the original punks, or at least influentially wise :)

(sorry, hits post button too early) - Darby was reasonably cogent and would probably be considered "reactionary" by many of you junior PC camp followers. I remember having a beer with him at the Canterbury in early '79, listening to him shred Marc Baar of the long-defunct Cynics (an admitted Communist) in a debate over whether Karl Marx knew WTF he was talking about. Darby didn't march in the same camp as the Dils, DK's or the lefty crowd one bit...
