Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of ASTEROIDS for the Atari 7800 Prosystem. This classic video game was originally released in the arcade in 1979, this Atari cartridge version was copyright 1984 but probably saw its way to the stores in 1986. Asteroids is viewed as a retro old school classic vintage gaming hit today and is still a lot of fun. You control a space ship in a field of cosmic debris and blast away at it with your lasers in a unique shoot em up SHMUP style that is seen today in games like Geomety Wars. Astoids has been remade many times for systems like the Xbox 360 Live Arcade XBLA, the Playstation and others, and will probably see the PS3 Playstation 3 at some point.

Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. The HD series is reviewing PS3, Genesis, NES, Atari and Xbox 360. XBLA.

  • When that music came up at the end and watching the footage I just had an image of Tempest 2000 for the Atari Jaguar.

Did Tempest come out on any other Atari console out of coursity?

  • It's funny you should mention that, we just posted our Tempest 2000 review from the year 2000. CGRHD

  • What the hell is that sweet music that kicks in at about 2:50?

  • I love living in Europe, this awesome game is built into our PAL systems and it starts up right after turning on my beloved 7800 :)

  • @PandaGirl1907 You're welcome, have some fun! =P

  • @Indead Thanks to your comment my brother and I were able to find Comet Busters, which we had forgotten the name of but have been trying to find for the past few years. Thanks so much!

  • A fun, and very distinctive port. Very glad to have this built into my PAL 7800.

  • Mark, If I can point something out to you regarding the 2600 version of this game: the asteroids DO scatter in random directions when you go through the modes. It starts somewhere in the mid 20s.

  • @gillianorley What fun is that? That'd be boring to look at in a video-game setting.

  • Why make the asteroids pastel colored?

I can understand if it was not possible to emulate the vector-beam graphics of the arcade version, but why not make all the asteroids gray colored like, say, big rocks in space which is what they are?

  • @mettalero66 Firefox with Adblock addons prevent those video commercials. I haven't seen one in a very long time. I love my Firefox. Such a good little Firefox!!! :D

  • thumbs up if you are sick and tired of comercials before the vids on youtube

  • The kickass music at the end is called "Seed Overload" from Fresh Music, almost every song on CGR is from there.

  • damn this game is sick......I still have the Atari 2600 that I still play, but never had the 7800. I think thats next on my list of things to buy along with this game.
