  • "Goodbye Porkpie Hat" was Mingus' Eulogy for Lester Young. When it was time to write his own epitaph Mingus (finally)convinced Joni to collaborate on what he knew would be his last project before succumbing to Lou Gehrig's Disease. The result was Joni's 10th LP "Mingus." Ironically, he heard every final mix except the studio version of this song. Dedicated to Steve Richko. We shouldn't be writing his epitaph or eulogy this soon...

  • this group is so locked in to eachother it's incredible. 2:38 is in the zone

  • Line up for this gig :

Joni Mitchell - electric guitar, vocals

    Pat Metheny - lead guitar

    Jaco Pastorius - bass

    Don Alias - drums

    Lyle Mays - keyboards

    Michael Brecker - saxophone

  • @avivagabriel It's not Wayne Shorter, it sounds like because it is Michael Brecker! I have the VHS of this concert "Shadows and Light", part of the "Mingus" tour and it is awesome. Unless Shorter got white, it really is Michael Brecker..

Wayne Shorter played on the studio album "Mingus".

  • @Nikolja5 Yep

  • Guys, there is a VHS/DVD footage of this concert and it definitely is Michael Brecker on the saxophone, I've seen it a million times and is awesome. It's from the double album "Shadows and Light". Wayne Shorter plays only on the studio album "Mingus".

  • OUTSTANDING!!!!! thanks for posting

  • Is this version with Jaco Pastorius?

  • Who knew that Joni Mitchell sang jazz.

  • @avivagabriel You're wrong.

It's Brecker, check wikipedia. this is not the album "Mingus", it's "shadows and light".

  • @maintnanceman19 : It's Wayne Shorter... not Michael Brecker. I can see why you might think it's Brecker...it DOES sound like him a bit. But the album's liner notes clearly confirm Wayne Shorter as the saxophonist.

  • @maintnanceman19 : It's Wayne Shorter... not Michael Brecker.

  • Man thats Michael Brecker with the saxophone solo

  • una de las mejores voces sin dudarlo!!!!!! CApa, genia, una artista de a de veras!!!

  • I haven't heard this for years...I'm in love with Joni again! John Handy's remarkable tenor solo in song.

  • Sweet. Makes me want to switch back to playing bass again.

  • @tunesailor

Thanks for your informations. Usually, I don't like so much Joni's style. But her interpretation is incredible, deep, precise, and soulful. Une merveille!
