I avoid the island that my goose has her nest on, but I had to go out there today (31 March 2009) to fix the upper pool on the waterfall. It was flooding her nest, plus draining the pond. I took my video-cam just in case there was some action, and there certainly was! The goose and gander never hit or bite me, but there are some great fly-by and attack shots. It shows how geese defend their nest against someone they "trust." They actually attack and hit/bite anyone but me. Had the gander wanted to, he could have easily knocked me off the bridge. Listen for the wind in his feathers as he just misses my head. Also watch as the goose spreads her wings to look about three times as large as she really is. There are good nest shots, and dive-bombing gander shots. It was all over within about five minutes since I worked quickly to fix the leak.

  • o m gosh...im so sorry for laughing...that was just too funny....you have a beautiful pond, and I hope you put up lots of videos of the goslings...im subscribing!

  • Thanks so much. I am glad people other than me crack-up about my videos. It's so funny around here....

  • I forgot to say that in order to install the pumps to code, I had to put the GFI box on the island. You can not attach a pond pump to an extension cord, then run it through pond water to the house. Big no-no!!!

  • Hi... I don't mean to be a smarty pants but was wondering - couldn't you have just pulled the power to the water pump and shut off the waterfall until after the eggs hatched? Maybe I'm missing something that I didn't understand in the video. Just wondering... great setup you have!

  • Thanks so much for the comment. No, I could not do that. The power source (GFI box) is on my island (you can see it in some shots ~ it is black with plastic covers) PLUS to shut down water would mean potential still water which equals mosqueto larvae. As long as water is running, misquetos will not lay eggs...

  • hahaha i love this video! you have a beautiful place .... and you did the right thing you had no choice... it was either this or let her nest get wet and her eggs would have went bad... so you did the right thing! yup yup! =) .. can't wait to see more awesome videos from ya =)

  • Thanks so much Mark. Seven goslings hatched, and I have video. I just have not had time to post it yet.

    Again...Thanks...Kathy

  • I like your deer. Thank you for being understanding and kind to the Canada Geese.

  • I had the same situation with a gander two days ago like yours in which I was trying to unclog a dam at my university campus but there was a mother goose nesting on it and the gander just wouldn't let anyone any closer than 7 meters away from the dam so I ended up telling my partner to go remove the junk while I stayed to HOLD on to both the goose and the gander by their necks for the whole ~70 seconds keeping them away from my partner until the dam was unclogged. Then I threw them back.

  • Hello! I just thought I would say that you really have a beautiful place there. That is like an animal paradise. I really like it.

  • good thanks for the video
