Six people were injured Tuesday evening in a wreck involving a semi-trailer and several cars that shut down southbound Highway 71.
The collision happened at 155th Street on Highway 71. Authorities said the semi-trailer rear-ended another vehicle, causing a chain reaction collision.
KMBC'S Martin Augustine reported that one of the first rescue crews at the scene pulled a mother and daughter from a burning car. The crew was in the area because of another traffic wreck.
"If we had been at the station, we wouldn't have been there in time. It's a blessing," firefighter Robert Bellefy said.
Southbound traffic was being diverted for more than an hour.
