Madrigal - the song of the birds

Victoria de los Angeles singing an orchestrated arrangement of 'The song of the birds' (El cant dels ocells), a much-loved Catalan folksong about birds responding to the birth of Christ. The lyrics displayed in this Madrigal are a bit different from, and more poetic than, those normally found in the cant dels ocells.

At her funeral in Barcelona,the congregation stood in respect, while this was played on a solo cello.

This was sung by VdlA at the Closing Ceremony of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.The piece is of great emotional importance to the people of Catalonia.
