Actually, we do not live in a secular nation. We live in a nation built upon Christian principles. "In God we trust". . . "Endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights" . . etc. The founders only intended to make the government not sponsor any one specific Christian church. They did not intend the government to be atheist.
That is 100% untrue. G-d is NOT a purely Christian idea. I am Jewish & I resent the notion that you think that just because some of the founding documents speak of a Creator that they must have meant a Christian one. It's closed minded and simply false. I never said they intended the gov't to be atheist but they NEVER intended it to be run based on ANY religious doctrine, including the Bible, since that's how it had been done in England/Europe, which is what they were getting away from.
You must not know much religious doctrine. The Jewish God and Christian God are the same. Do you not know we also believe God gave Moses the ten commandments ? No need to resent the founding fathers.
You have to understand that any facts that you present to mormonlegion is going to be retorted with fiction and propaganda. Actually, that describes most religious people (especially, Mormons).
Eat, you might actually be fun to have a discussion with, but your logic and reasoning gets distorted b/c of your severe and specific hatred towards mormons. Try to take a deep breath b4 you type and post your message. Don't get angry or emotional, or lose your cool. Then, you just might have something interesting to add to the conversation.
pnt 1: I agree with you - obviously. Show me where I "asserted" otherwise? pnt 2: you've got preconceived conclusions. Never said that. What I "asserted" is the Founding Fathers were Christian and they established ppls rights under the premise 'rights' were God given pnt 3: Disagree. 1st ammendment prevented a state-run religion - and ONLY one religion. It was not meant to create athiestic or anti-religion gov't I never said gay marraige should be illegal b/c it goes against religion.
Further, did you forget the 1st amendment to the Constitution? Thomas Jefferson made an interpretation of the 1st Amendment to his January 1st, 1802 letter to the Committee of the Danbury Baptist Association calling it a "wall of separation between church and State." Madison had also written that "Strongly guarded. . . is the separation between religion and government in the Constitution of the United States."

point 2: i resent YOU for assuming that any speak of a "creator" must be a "Christian" one and disregarding ALL other religions.
point 3: the founding fathers did not intend for our gov't to act on any religious doctrine. this was the point of the 1st amendment.
therefore, any argument that same-sex marriage should be illegal based on any religious text is null and void.
