  • They can charge you fair price for the time/materials involved with such requests. For instance, I paid $3.00 for the video on DVD, and $0.20 for copies of the police roster.

  • Employee rosters, dates of hire, salaries, dashcam videos, board meeting minutes, budgets, statistics, etc. -- it's all considered public information.Lakeway happened to have its own form that I downloaded; but, any type of formal request will suffice. Try it yourself! Request the names, dates of hire, rank, and salaries of all the sworn personnel at your police department. The cool part is... they are prohibited by law from asking why you want the information.

  • Hi Kory!

I got this video from the Lakeway Police Department by submitting an "Open Records Request" form. I happened to know the time/place of the traffic stop because I heard the call on my way home from work. In fact, at 1:45 in the video, you can see me (in my red Ford truck) pull into a parking lot, just to check out what's going on as I listen to the scanner.

There are many types of documentation that are available, simply by submitting such a request to the government entity involved.

  • @SpeedTrapAhead The purpose of this video is what????

  • @PepsiPope No, but you better make sure you are stopped in a place which is legal to do so.

If you pull into a closed business at 3am to watch you have to understand that this creates a legal and valid reason for another officer to stop and ask why you are on private property (the business) at 3am.

But no its not illegal to film the police in Texas in almost all instances.

  • If I get a scanner and see something like this going on is it illegal to watch from a distance?

  • Officer turned back to suspect. Never do that!

  • Where have you been lately. I have not seen any videos in a long time?

    love the videos you do.

  • How did you get a copy of this?
