That is a rarity. I've witnessed a lot of the norms go out the window as of late. Everything from the financial markets to patterns in nature. It's interesting and I wonder what else could be expected. Thanks for the reply and happy fishing. JP

In reference to the fish feeding in shallow water, I've seen these fish feed on mullet in six inches of water in the surf. I actually caught one while talking to someone with the pole over my shoulder and the popper lure swishing around in the wash. And the fish were 8 lbs and better. The striped bass is an amazing fish. I think the only positive thing George W did in the last 8 years was declare it a game fish. Nice catch.

Thanks for the comment. I too have seen them shallow but we're fishing on a lake in the summer and not in the spring when the water is still cool. In the spring you'll catch them shallow but in the middle of the summer, they go down to the Thermocline and below. That's usually 25-30 feet down. On the day we caught these monsters we were reading surface temps of 88 degrees!! Up to this day I had never seen so many big fish up top with the temps so high but we took advantage!

Are there any carp in lake lanier?
If so, is it legal to catch it there?

Tons of carp. I see them pretty much all spring as they come up close to shore and then in the summer as they rise chasing flies early in the morning.

Mostly because the fish was stressed and heavy to handle. We wanted to get it back in the water quickly and figured this was the best way. A year earlier he had landed a 20 lb'er and learned it was a bit much for him to handle. That fish we had mounted so it didn't matter. This one we wanted to release and it was 100 degrees, in the middle of a really hot day in August, so we didn't want to risk hurting it anymore.
