In late 2009, the Norwegian indie movie Tomme Tønner was in the making, slated for a winter release. The film directors had envisioned a cartoon opening scene about the main characters' past. This was commissioned from me on animation (Palegolas) and my buddy and colleague Matt Willis-Jones on backgrounds and comping. We co-directed the thing, and produced it in a month in 2009. The voices were already pre-recorded on location by the directors of the feature.
After a test screening of the full movie (without our animation, that was still in production) it seemed that the test audience got confused about who all the supporting characters were in the movie. (There were plenty of them).
This had them decide to go for a completely different intro: "a supporting characters' introduction".
Even thought the short was ready, it was never published and was left untouched for a long time. In january 2011 we thought we'd just go ahead and grade it and put some sound on it and release it and send it to festivals.
So, there you go! The story of Tomme Tønner - The Animated Short!
