  • @77tubuck Most of this applies to elementary school students, where the dynamics are different. I can't control parents, they'll always want their kids whom they love so much to be special. The gifted program for me wasn't for that purpose, however.

  • @puuv "A lot of people need to see things multiple times before it's memorized." No shit Shurlock that is why in a traditional class room the teacher says thing once and the students take notes. Then the students take home the notes to study. Some students only need to here things once but that is related to short term memory. There is no way to test long term memory. Secondly if it is not a ego trip why are so many parents bragging about how smart there child is on you-tube?

  • @77tubuck A lot of people need to see things multiple times before it's memorized, "gifted" children and certain individuals process information faster because of a healthier brain or a number of any other factors. Where some people would need something repeated in order to understand it fully, or explained in great detail, a gifted child would be ready to move forward. It's just about different pacing. Not some ego trip.

  • @puuv People understand concepts at a faster pace. What the hell is that supposed to mean. Did the teachers in the gifted program have to talk 10 times faster than normal. When I was in elementary school I spent 80% of time listening to the teacher. So I don't understand why you are telling me you were bored. If you listened to the teacher you would not be bored. And yes intelligence tests are culturally biased I read it in a book by a psychologist.

  • @77tubuck I made the work comment because you insinuated that I was bored in class because I didn't do the work. By "people who get things faster" I meant classes that go at a faster pace for people who understand concepts at a faster pace. Also, I would like to point out that just because you say something is culturally bias does not mean that your statement is fact or that the "culturally biased" thing has no merit or purpose in any perspective.

  • @puuv News flash most students complete all the work. I am not sure what you mean by "people who get things a bit faster." Can you elaborate on that? There are classes for people with learning disabilities but that is a red herring fallacy. It has nothing to do with the gifted program witch should be scraped. I know it is a psychological matter. I told you the psychological tests are culturally bias.

  • @77tubuck I completed all of the work. I'm not trying to raise my value here. I'm stating facts, and yes there is psychological testing and research behind this program, the whole concept is a psychological matter. The point is there are classes for people who have learning disabilities, classes for people who are on par with the majority, then there are classes for people who get things a little bit faster. It's about helping people function properly and get what they need mentally.

  • @puuv If you were extremely bored in class then maybe you should have done some work like the other kids. I have seen many of these I.Q. test and most of them have a section on vocabulary. Yes there is a part with building blocks and patterns but that part of the test only tests short term memory. It does not test long term memory. The psychological testing is based on an assumption and you are no smarter than the rest of us.

  • @77tubuck No actually...the test was focused on how quickly I adapted and processed things. A personality checklist, visuals, and color patterns as well as building blocks were used. I was unhappy because I was extremely bored and always had free time in class. I NEVER claimed to be better than anyone. It seems that you're extremely bitter and prejudice. I see no experience in your claims nor factual basis, while behind the gifted program there are several years of psychological testing.

  • @puuv Why were you unhappy in a regular class? Most IQ test are based on vocabulary and culturally bias. For example someone who's first language will do poorly while someone who's parents have a big vocabulary will do very well. I am afraid you are no better than the rest of us and the gifted program should be scrapped.
