  • Do you have to shut down the Macbook if you want to disconnect it from the monitor?

  • Nope, just pull the plug out. The screen goes blank for a second as the video card readjusts, and it'll put the setting back to normal.

  • how does spaces work

  • Sorry man, I don't know anything about spaces. I'm still running Tiger. ;)

  • I have a 2007 Macbook and I just bought an external monitor. It works just fine, thanks to your help... BUT the colors are off. The blues are purple and greens are yellowish... Any solutions for this?

  • hey everything is fine but when i wake up the macbook its ok for like 2 secods then it goes black again =O do you know why?

  • You can't afford macbook? Check out offer at macbook7 . com Take your chance NOW

It was so long ago, that I have no idea -- sorry man.

I think I just messed with the resolution till I got it working. Is you problem getting the right window onto the working monitor, so you can set the monitor up to "mirror"? If so, I just worked blind till I lucked out.

BTW -- I replaced my own LCD w/ a $60+ship screen from Ebay. Followed a YouTube "How to" install video... totally worked, took a lazy hour. Cost like $70 in the end, instead of $700 through Apple.

I am in the same boat..... did you find out how to access the sysem preferences on the external monitor?

  • So my screen on my macbook is cracked.

I can only see about a half inch column on the left hand side of the screen.

I hooked up an external sony monitor with the plug in the video but the default display setting is extension and I can not see the display settings on my macbook to change it.

Do you know of anyway I could go about getting the system preferences window or display settings on my external monitor with a hot key or any other way without randomly clicking on the screen and dragging?

  • Good video and it's simple to understand, i do have a 'Blackbook' and I am trying to do the same to view documents, watch movies, open different folders, multitask etc etc. Having a big display will help, indeed. But, does the image improve on clarity if the mini dvi cable is connected to a dvi port on the external monitor, instead of connected to a vga port? Or, is this negligible to detect?

  • Thanks A LOT!

  • How do I "scroll in"?

I'm stuck here. My macbook's monitor is cracked -- I'm trying to make the external monitor the primary monitor, but I'm working blind.

Got the external monitor connected, can see the cursor there and can do some dragging, but can't toy with the zooming/scrolling in order to bring System Preferences into the external monitor.
