Chemistry 3B: Chemical Structure and Reactivity. Spring 2006. Professor Peter Vollhardt.

Chemistry 3B represents the second semester of the standard organic chemistry series at UC Berkeley. It covers conjugation, aromatic chemistry, carbonyl compounds, carbohydrates, amines, carboxylic acids, amino acids, peptides, proteins, and nucleic acid chemistry. Ultraviolet spectroscopy and mass spectrometry will be introduced.
Organic chemistry is a specific discipline within the subject of chemistry. It is the scientific study of the structure, properties, composition, reactions, and preparation of chemical compounds of carbon and hydrogen, which may contain any number of other elements, such as nitrogen,...

  • Good job on your video I liked it very much!

  • This pro reminds me of someone.....actlly he remids me of 2 ppl

  • @hmharpri agreed. I am more fond of learning this sort of material by chalkboard, which allows you to see the development of the concept. Chalkboard was how my ochem class was taught, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. :)

  • The start of the chemistry of the carbonyl group which features a polar carbon to oxygen double bond. This makes carbonyl carbon very susceptible to nucleophilic attack due to the fact that the carbon is very slightly electron deficient. Aldehydes have formulae that end in CHO and can react with a number of nucleophiles including Ammonia to produce an imine also known as a schiff base with the elimination of a molecule of water. What would reat with the carbon here i sa lone pair of electrons.

  • does anyone know if there are lecture notes with these videos, the powerpoint presentations would be extremely useful. Thanks!

  • it really doesnt matter if he teaches on powerpoint, as he explains himself very well.powerpoint base lectures that are bad is due to the teacher reading off it without clarifying anything from it.

  • Peter Vollhardt's book on Organic Chemistry is a very good one to start the study of Organic Chemistry.....
