This week, Ive been traveling across our country to discuss health insurance reform and to hear directly from folks like you your questions, your concerns, and your stories.

Now, I know theres been a lot of attention paid to some of the town hall meetings that are going on around the country, especially those where tempers have flared. You know how TV loves a ruckus.

But what you havent seen because its not as exciting are the many constructive meetings going on all over the country where Americans are airing their hopes and concerns about this very important issue.

Ive been holding some of my own, and the stories Ive heard have really underscored why I believe so strongly that health insurance reform is a challenge we can't ignore.

Theyre stories like Lori Hitchcocks, who I met in New Hampshire this week. Loris got a pre-existing condition, so no insurance company will cover her. Shes self-employed, and in this economy, she cant find a job that offers health care, so shes been uninsured for two years.

Or theyre stories like Katie Gibsons, who I met in Montana. When Katie tried to change insurance companies, she was sure to list her pre-existing conditions on the application and even called her new company to confirm shed be covered. Two months later, she was dropped after shed already gone off her other insurance.

These are the stories that arent being told stories of a health care system that works better for the insurance industry than it does for the American people. And thats why were going to pass health insurance reform that finally holds the insurance companies accountable.

But nows the hard part. Because the history is clear every time we come close to passing health insurance reform, the special interests with a stake in the status quo use their influence and political allies to scare and mislead the American people.

As an example, lets look at one of the scarier-sounding and more ridiculous rumors out there that so-called "death panels" would decide ...

  • Obama is clearly lying. He tells people that they will be able to keep their private insurance but everyone knows that the private insurance companies will not be able to compete with gov't funded programs. And on top of that it is obvious that companies will seek to unload their benefits programs when given the chance. Before becoming president Obama clearly stated that he was in favor of a single payer gov't health program. He knows he can only achieve this incrementally and with deception.

  • Yes. No one can compete with the government. That's why the postal service has driven Fed Ex and UPS out of business. NOT!

  • So you admit that the USPS is a complete and utter failure?

You are stating that the government will run health care like the Postal Service?

Ouch, shot yourself in the foot.

  • You really aren't that good at debating or logic are you?

  • In Europe the people don't have to worry about health care. It's provided. People are afraid of change.

Here's something to think about. Tax payers money are used in: public schools, law enforcements, fire depts, useless wars, big companies bailouts, etc. Why not use this for the people, health care for everyone. People will have a choice whether public or private health care. For example we have a choice whether to use public or private schools. Time for a change, for the good of the people.

  • US put too much money on military. Health care should have been single payer to cut all costs. But i mean he's getting there. Although this democratic process is inefficien, completely flawed and shouldn't have been this way from the beginning. He's trying hard to help the underdog.

  • If america either payed more tax (it's low) or stopped getting in to stupid wars then you would afford public health insurance

  • Hey chump,

10 milion expected to die sooner if half trillion in cuts to medicare happen...this is the bill you want....wake up & smell the dead bodies.....

  • so sad america's health system will continue to get worse and many more will die becuase insurance companies are souless profit machines, not only that but the worlds only democratic superpower is going to go bankrupt without real reform. I guess the bad guys do really win in reality.

  • I'm sorry Mr. President. But you forcing a Unconstitutional bill through the Senate makes us all miss trust you. And the senate is completely disfunctional because of what you and the dems. did to get this bill rushed through. There is no basses for the argument that this has to be done fast, because it don't even go into effect for another 4 years. Let us know whats in it before you pass it. If you don't. It has to be something that noone wants.

  • We are in USA & we have fools & jackasses to deal with.....

Buy this pile of crap ins or"GO TO JAIL".....

I mean--we'll just jump ship in interim & repeal it so you won't get a penny ..

Real good idea for a community organizer....Nice one...Not...

  • It's too bad when you know he's telling you a bold f aced lie. What, me worry?

  • It's one thing if they ACTUALLY limited the bill to just saying that once a citizen is insured, they can't just be dropped. The problem here is that he's trying to make companies pay for all sorts of stuff. It's one thing if you get denied, same reason a person with 10 car accidents doesn't get car insurance. Besides, people are often obese and that would take a TON of money from insurance just because people were stupid and ate fast food while not exercising. BTW, compare us to Germany economic

  • Gee, that's the same lame argument daddy Obama used. I wonder who you get your marching orders from. lol

  • If the government stopped delivering the mail I would no longer have any mail , the only thing i get is junk mail , all my bill's are paper free!
