Amy Chua argued in the Wall Street Journal says Chinese parents are better than Western parents, in her article titled, "Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior." But should it be time for American parents to get a little more realistic, putting a little more pressure on? DCBA Law & Policy's Michael Barnes weighs in.

  • @MsAngiechannel You know what's retarded? Not allowing children to be in a school play, play instruments other than the piano or violin, or not be the no. 1 student in every class. It's stuck up, thinking that the piano and violin are inherently superior is akin to thinking that books are inherently superior to another artistic medium like film. Also, not everyone can have a nNo. 1 mentality; there can only be one number one. It sets an impossibly high bar that hurts children's emotional state.

  • i think it's ok to be straightforward, my mum always tell my sister she is too fat, i think yup it's right.

  • You know what? Different culture, different style of raising kids! We Asians think American parents give their kids way too much freedom and american parents think 'Tiger Mom's are cruel! Come on... How is not letting your kids go to sleepovers cruel?

  • whites are just racist hypocrites! especially towards asians.

  • @madhoyden I think most cultures outside of the states have a very toung and cheek/blunt way of speaking to eachother. Being honest isn't all that strange...you know, as a matter of fact, I remember people in the south spoke the same way...straight forward...it wasn't until I moved to the midwest that I realized people were much more "fake" or "polite" about their way of speaking. So "you've gained weight" turned into "you look different...did you do something to your hair?' lol:)

  • @dinnerandashow well, duh! cuz white americans are the only Americans right? lol:) I'm happy you pointed this out.

  • Actually, it's just not mothers who will call their daughters fat.

Chinese are very, very straightforward. All your relatives will let you know that you're fat, then ask you "omg, when you did you reach pass 100?" if you're a young woman.

  • I was wondering about Russian views of all this (cause the parents of my Russian Friends back in high school seemed pretty strict too), and then they invited an American?

  • Out of all the experts they could have invited, why a white American?

  • Westerners spend time debtaing this while asians are studying for thier exams, getting jobs at Merrill Lynches and what not.
