This is the second video on stack based buffer overflows, however in this video we have a more real situation were the buffer size is only 10 bytes long and so to exploit this we create an enviroment variable to hold our argument to pass to the vulnerable program...

  • Sorry I just want to double check. All of the gcc arguments were to protect your stack and arn't necessary to exploit the code correct?

  • @cmwarre yes thats right it just makes the process easier for video purposes so you can see whats happening easier for educational purposes its unlikely when exploiting real programs that they will have used these arguments
