  • tanning beds are terrible

seriously, you might feel like your the only person without a tan before the summer

but in 20 years, you'll be the only one WITHOUT wrinkels, and you wont have cancer.

  • I work at a tanning salon, and to be honest, yes tanning beds are dangerous. Yes, they can cause skin cancer if you overexpose yourself to the uv rays. But you can also get cancer from outdoor tanning, once again, if you overexpose yourself.

One thing to keep in mind is that tanning beds emit 3x more radiation than the sun's rays.. this makes them a little more dangerous, and this is why you need to watch how long and often you go tanning for.

I disagree, any amount of UV radiation promotes the forming of thymine dimers which essentially = damaged skins cells. Our body normally fixes these errors so its not a huge deal, but for every 10^7 corrections there is one mistake. Each mistake ends up damaging nearby cells in a cascading event. This is why you skin is fine until you are 30/40 but then accelerates towards its degenerative state, its because the effects are exponential, not linear.

Yes, Genes do play a part in "good skin", as do many other factors (environment, diet, exercise, smoking, etc).

Actually my skin would look 20 years younger if I had not BURNED so much, before I became so educated about UV, but it would look 20 years older than it does, had I not tanned at all. UV actually stimulates regeneration if absorbed in moderation (according to skin type), as it was designed to do. Tanning is a natural function that is a part of our body (skin) for a reason.

Tanning beds are not dangerous. It is the people that use them irresponsibly that give them a bad name.

Tanning beds have a timer & a use schedule for a reason. Do not use them for longer or more often than the schedule suggests. If you want to be tan overnight, get a spray tan! If you want to tan responsibly follow the recommended schedule. I don't ever go the full time in a tanning bed, even though the schedule says my skin type can build up to the full time pretty quickly.

It is irresponsible to say if you never tan you won't get skin cancer. One may get skin cancer for many different reasons (high on list are lotions with parabens & chemical sunscreens).

More & more studies are proving that tanning IN MODERATION actually protects you from skin cancer. In addition to giving you the only NATURAL protection from sunburn, it stimulates many natural anti-cancer effects within the skin & body. I can give links to this info if anyone is interested.

Tanning in moderation isn't the "key" to your good skin. Your genes are. Had you not tanned at all you skin would probably look 20 years younger instead of 10.

  • @italianhoe92

ok to be the only one w/o a tan, but don't go out in the sun or you will be the only one with a burn (which means you will be the 1 at risk for skin cancer, not the ones who protected their skin by tanning in moderation in a controlled environment)!

  • @Chaseawaythefog

I am almost 50 years old.

I have tanned indoors & out all of my life. I now know to tan in moderation & never burn.

Tanning has protected my bones (vitamin D), when I fell off a ladder (8 ft onto my hip & leg on concrete)

I look at least 10 years younger than I am. They key? Tan in moderation & use high quality moisturizers & tanning lotions =)

Afterall your skin is your largest organ, take care of it!

  • @MrEddie0228

    Thank you!

We need to ecucate the public about the benefits of moderate tanning

  • @newportismylife

Tanning beds are only dangerous if used incorrectly. If you work in a salon, you have the responsibility to ensure that they are used correctly. Please don't give all salons a bad name, because some do not educate & use the beds correctly.
