  • That was SWEET! What a sleeper! How much power is that engine putting out? And do you have a fuel cell or the stock gas tank? ;)

  • The last dyno was 477 rwhp and yes I took the stock gas tank out and put a 12 gallon cell in it.

  • @holmd90 Thanks......I appreciate the info!!! CJ

  • @CJurasin you will likely maintain or possibly even gain economy. a good carb can make a large difference if it is set up right, and you won't have to romp on it to get up to speed or over hills.

if you google "four eyed pride forums" you will find a very useful site for anything to do with your '85, and the people there are very very helpful

  • @holmd90 Thanks for the tips.....I may first look into the carboretion change. Will this decrease gas mileage alot or just a little? I'm no lead-foot, but want a little more spunk out of that motor than I'm getting without giving up decent gas mileage.

  • @CJurasin The carbs on those years of 4cyl are shit, not matter what you do to the exhaust its still getting strangled on the intake side. I would get a cam and put on a better carb such as a holley 390 2 barrel. if you wanted to go turbo, you'll need to find a factory turbo motor -they came with forged pistons- and drop on by turboford. org

also those 4spds weren't all that strong, you may want to find a T5 as well

  • @CJurasin The wagon was heavier than the Sedan, but still your Mustang weighs at least 300lbs more. (~3400lb)

( My brother had a 1984 Mustang SVO)

I would suggest adding an MSD ignition kit, a true cold air intake and and a 2.5 inch magnaflow muffler out the back. You'll get fair increases in fuel economy, cleaner emissions and more power. I'm surprised that it is only a 4spd and not a 5.

  • I have a carborated '85 Mustang 2.3 4 spd with only 67,000 original miles and want to put a turbo on it for a little more power now and then. Any suggestions? This totally stock Mustang is a GUTLESS WONDER as is, but I had a Pinto Wagon back in the '70s with the same equipment that could outrun this Mustang any day of the week.....how come? I've pulled the emissions and the Cat-Verter off and it made no difference at all!!

  • the craziest ive ever seen was a turbo chevy chevette 4cyl. rwd.

  • going to build a mustang 2.3 i just bought !

  • nice , fast car ! hurt that r.runner `s owners feelings i am sure ! have built many different engines , never a 2.3 . want to one day ! BLUE OVAL FOREVER !
