  • This is really neat. Did you consider using fiber optic lines from under the unit? I don't know if that would make it easier or harder, though :D Looks great.

  • @EpicureMammon Nice thought, but fiber optics would have compromised the appearance considerably. Can't do multiple right-angle bends with fiber, and fibers are way thicker than the fine wire I used.

  • Nice Dave. Who made the bell circuit ? I use the one from ITT. Like the sound of yours much better. Would like to switch. Please let me know. edba1300@aol.com Thanks. JB

  • @lightrailbo The bell sound is dubbed in from a video I shot at a real crossing. It's not a circuit. Sorry!

  • CAN YOU MAKE ME ONE (LITERLY)

  • Sorry, this thing was a LOT of work to make. You'd need to be prepared to surrender a few hundred bucks for one.

  • Excellent craftsmanship on your part Dave!!!

  • Hi! I'm interested in making some of these in HO scale for my layout... I went as far as to go and buy metal supplies, but just now stumbled upon your video. I was wondering if you had any ideas of where I could find such small LEDs, wire, and a flasher relay? I'm sorry to ask so much, I probably will just search around... Great job! Looks like a Griswold cantilever.

  • Ok. Thankyou!!

  • @gskaplan The electronics aren't the hardest part with this, to my opinion: the biggest challenge is soldering and glueing everything together without shorts, wires that break, or supports/ladders/lamps whatever that look to bulky.

    I have a hard time already making a dutch crossing in H0 (1:87) so I won't even try Z ;)

  • wow man my cuz was sending me your videos of your layout man that is tight you have much better fingers than I do lol great job.

  • I wish I knew how to make something like this. I think I'll pick up a book on electronics. That is REALLY beautiful.
