  • I've seen some comments about the audio quality being too good for the 1900's - you're right! Rachmaninov recorded this into a player-piano reel, which preserves all of his keystrokes, pedaling, tempos and dynamics. It is then put through a player-piano today, and the recording engineers sit back and let Sergei's ghost do all the work.

  • Thank you for posting this, to think of the story behind the music whilst you listen to Rachmaninov himself play it himself; scary, creepy, wonderful.

  • gives me goosebumps every time...the note at 2:54-2:55....ooooohhhhhohh

  • @Voime09 Actually that part is fine; it's the fast bit that's the hardest in this piece. In my opinion, obviously.

  • @JustSomeRandomNewb hehe yes true.. but I can't deny how the interpretation of rachmaninov is truly something else..

  • @JustSomeRandomNewb Playing the piano is not only about metod of moving of fingers - music has to have the expression. And expression everytime depends on what is in player's head. So I also think, that nobody can play it better than Rachmaninov because he is the author of this piece and he has in his head the whole of this piece - also with thinks that he could not write into the sheet - with his emotions, with happening that inspired him to this pieces. And this all is in the expression.

  • Your video is a favorite on Monrovia

  • @961chopin Lots of people. As I said, Rachmaninov himself said he thought other people played it better. Personally, i even feel I play it better than he does, but, well, don't we all :d

  • @JustSomeRandomNewb You think that someone plays it it better than rachmaninov himself ? plz do give me his name !

  • I hate 7 people!,
