While on a quest for a good touch-screen display for my interactive touch-screen prototype project, I found a NextWindow Human Touch Display in the A/V storeroom at UNC-Charlotte. NextWindow produces great interactive touch-screen displays that offer high screen resolution and a nice touch response. The globe was created by overlaying photos on Google Earth, and linking some of the photos to video clips depicting various destinations. Most of the photos are my own, from family vacations, but a few are from travel websites, to give users an idea of how the interface could be used for planning a cruise vacation. I think it would be fun to use on an interactive multi-touch table system.
This was taken in the AV warehouse at UNC-Charlotte, by the way - in 2007

I'd like to see touch tables in every school and library. It would be great if they were affordable enough for family rooms....

It would be interesting to see how this could work on Microsoft's Surface or the TouchTable system.

This demo is a prototype I worked on using Google Earth and YouTube for a travel-planning application for a Human-Computer Interaction class. I am planning on posting a "How-to" demo video on Teacher Tube soon. This would be a great application for teaching geography!
