You know when you look at the1998 Godzilla movie, I thinking is it supposed to a remake of 1954 Godzilla or remake of The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms thats just had Godzilla slaped on the poster for markee value, what does any one else think, let here your thoughts

@gallafey @gallafey That is exactly what I've thought for a long time now!
It's why I tell people that the '98 american godzilla film is an alright monster movie but a horrible Godzilla film. They screwed up by trying to make an homage to the old american monster movies with a japanese monster. It doesn't work because they're both inherently different with their own styles. So you had people going in expecting one thing and getting another, leaving them disappointed. It's sad really.

Eh I don't think that's that good as a monster movie personally. I tried watching it again like that and just couldn't handle the medocrity. Zilla's design is good though.

The cool thing about Godzilla is that he's virtually indestructible, which is what cast a pall over the '98 movie... they tried to make him a sympathetic figure (the poor creature is just lost, etc...kind of like "The Beast"). Godzilla wreaks havoc and then goes away when he feels like it. I think that's why he only died outright once (in the original...but came back as "Gigantis, The Fire monster). He needs to remain mysterious...and invincible.

Two movies that I can kind of see succeeding are Pacific Rim and the 2014 Godzilla movie. Mainly the Godzilla movie because it's being made by a true fan whose making it for fun and to fulfill a childhood dream, not just for money like Devlin and Emerich were.
