Further footage of the Deer Commissions Hind cull in Glenshee. The deer carcases hang below, some of the few shot on this day. Here the helicopter picks up a shooter. Once the shooters are gathered, they regroup and are flowen back out to the herd to start again. If Scottish Natural Heritage get their way, this will happen on the island of Rum in late 2007 /2008.

  • The Red Deer of Rhum Island have taken to eating the heads, and wings of Puffin chicks. Scientists believe this is due to the lack of beneficial minerals in the soil. It'd be interesting to see a clip of a "carnivorous" deer anyway.

  • There will be no shortage of lead in their diet anyway.

  • the deer commision know what there doing...its population control.

  • Yeah they have an agenda alright.... Kill till there are so few left, people can't make a living from them anymore.

  • @yourtubeafried nobody wants to eat venison because they think its cruel. i love it. id rather eat venison than any other meat.

  • We should eat more venison, this would be a much more ethical way to control numbers, people would once agin be able to make a living off of the land. SNH have a horrible policy on deer management and need to listen to the guys that actually work the land and know the deer inside out. Too many decisions getting made by fuckwits in offices.

  • They use helicopters in glenshee because of the difficulty in transporting carcasses fro, the higher ground, its faster and more efficient to use choppers than to use say an argo or a rover.

  • @BigErnie00 The human population is a far too large number and destroyed the forests in the first place. We can not decide what we want, chop down, re grow, chop down to expand the green belt and to provide food for a growing population.

There will be a point where we will have to work out how to get them back once we have killed them to near extinction in most areas!!

    HUMANS ARE THE PROBLEM

  • The over population of deer in Scotland is restricted to just a few area. The proposed reduction of the herd on Rum has been stopped due to public pressure. The Rum herd has been studied for over 30 years.

  • bullshit. mankind is the defective part in the equation.

  • The red deer pop in Scotland is too large. Their numbers are preventing the natural regeneration of the forest and forcing some species of plants out of existence due to browse pressure. Their numbers have to be drastically reduced. Guys, don't put the cart before the horse; if it wasn't for the forest and the plants there would not be any deer! If the deer had predators their numbers would be much much lower than they currently are, hence the silvicultural problems.

  • the Rum reds eat the Manx Shearwaters. Dont think there are puffins to eat, but manxies are named "puffinus puffinus"! It's more the population of brown rats that are killing the manxis up on their colonys on Hallival and Askival. Interesting transoprt method for the deer. Thanks for sharing the video.

  • dont believe the nra? i am the nra, a land owner and a hunter. what do they have to do with this? sensible people are also known as stewards of the land. like most hunters, farmers and so on.

the ones you dont believe are the DNRC DNR and Forrest Circus.

  • They do hunt them. Don't believe the NRA. It is easier to shoot a deer in Scotland than here in the USA. No tags, no permits, a five month season, no orange coats, no fish and game, no limits, just sensible people so no rules are needed.
