SCOTUS rules 7-2 that the recount mandated by the Florida Supreme Court violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. It also rules 5-4 that in the opinion of the majority, time has run out for a Constitutionally acceptable statewide recount.

  • There should've been a new Gore Bush election in Florida. Al Gore would have been the winner and president.

  • I was pissed and shocked.

  • Dan looked pissed, LOL

  • This Supreme Court decision was a travesty. Please google: None Dare Call It Treason by Vincent Bulogosi. You will learn exactly how this decision went down. Long story short, because the Florida count was stopped, NONE of our votes counted in 2000. And what blows my mind is that this got very little media attention. Wow, this should scare everyone half to death!

  • @generalbullmoose Could the Supreme Court have ordered the results tossed-out and ordered a new election with only Bush and Gore (no third party candidates) on the ballot??

  • There would have been multiple recounts with different winners, like the Florida Ballot Project showed, to the point that another election would have happened.

  • @generalbullmoose

The Supreme Court just stopped the recount. If they had recounted the entire Florida ballot, Gore wins. No need for the House or Senate to get involved.

  • Had the FL result been overturned, the presidential election would have gone to the House, where each state's delegation would have had one vote - at the time, 27-23 Republican. Bush would have won no matter what. The VEEP would have gone to the Senate, one vote per senator - at the time, 50-50. Gore casts the tie-breaker...and we would have had Bush as president & Lieberman as VP. Bottom line, Bush would have won no matter what & Gore finally realized it.
