@rhyder28 I'm guessing that the first syringe held either lidocaine, xylocaine or saline solution, although I've had anesthetic injected into me and I've never seen it create a huge weal or bleb on my body surface at all.

If I can donate blood after being tortured by nurses as a baby, and having a nurse "dig" for twenty minutes trying to establish an IV anyone can. I say tortured because IV cut downs were done with no numbing and I was awake and screaming. I don't remember it but my grandparents told me. The pain isn't that bad and only lasts for a split second.

The girl definitely has good technique: just quickly and smoothly thrusts the big long thick phlebotomy needle right in, even though the veins are not perfect and bulging
