President Obama Responds to Healthcare Detractors

"Now, there are some in this town who are content to perpetuate the status quo, are in fact fighting reform on behalf of powerful special interests. There are others who recognize the problem, but believe -- or perhaps, hope -- that we can put off the hard work of insurance reform for another day, another year, another decade.

Just the other day, one Republican senator said -- and I'm quoting him now -- "If we're able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him." Think about that. This isn't about me. This isn't about politics. This is about a health care system that is breaking America's families, breaking America's businesses, and breaking America's economy.

And we can't afford the politics of delay and defeat when it comes to health care. Not this time. Not now. There are too many lives and livelihoods at stake. There are too many families who will be crushed if insurance premiums continue to rise three times as fast as wages. There are too many businesses that will be forced to shed workers, scale back benefits, or drop coverage unless we get spiraling health care costs under control. " July 20, 2009

nonsense. Obama is quite selfless. he's in it for his children and to make America a better place to live and thrive. Where do you see a self centered ego in Obama? Of course we had to apologize to the rest of the world for Bush... that's just common sense, not ego. And nah, his approval has remained about the same since the economy continues to improve.

i am not american(a brit) and i find the different views on health care very interesting, for instance over here in the uk pretty much everyone belives in a free at point of use health care system, to think health care is only available to those that can afford health insurance is somewhat abborant to us, i'm not saying anybody who disagrees with this is wrong but it is all very interesting none the less ! .............please exuse my spelling . @Claronium780 Do you know anything? The health care bill Obama signed into law takes away the ability for American to choose there own health care. It will lead to the government making the choices about our health...that is socialist! The bill forces every working american to pay $750 or 2% of their income if they are not covered. Even though illegals will not pay a dime and still receive FREE CARE paid for by the tax payer!!!

@freedan33 Attorneys, malpractice suits and pharm co's have raped the sick here for the past century. Obama is an attorney, Hmmm! Healthcare would be reasonable if not for attrorneys raping the system and causing medical professionals to spend over 50% of their income on malpractice ins. This cost is passed on to the patient naturally. Nothing has been repaired here, just chewede and spit back out with a socialist label on it. Obama, when can I hire back my employees, they have families?
